UAE approves first license for self-driving cars

The UAE has approved the first license of its kind for License for Self-driving Cars on the country’s roads. His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, tweeted that WeRide had been granted a license.
A company called Varied will test different types of autonomous vehicles that will redefine the future of mobility in the UAE. WeRide is in Guangzhou, China, with centers in Abu Dhabi, among other cities, according to its website. The company is conducting autonomous driving research and operations in more than 26 cities worldwide.

Who is WeRide ?

WeRide is an international L4 autonomous driving technology company. The driverless test permits both in the U.S and China, WeRide is operating one of the world’s largest autonomous driving fleets in more than 25 cities around the world.

Established in Silicon Valley in 2017, WeRide now has expanded its R&D and operation centers to San Jose, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen. Company founded by Tony Han who was the former Chief Scientist of Baidu’s Autonomous Driving Unit. The company has grown to over 1000 employees around the globe over the past 5 years.
